Arrest made in sexual exploitation of a child case
On Wednesday, April 24, the Mountain Village Police Department (MVPD) made an arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into the sexual exploitation of a child.
The arrest comes following a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force in December that an individual downloaded child sexual exploitation material on an IP address in Mountain Village. In the ensuing months, the MVPD conducted a thorough investigation.
With assistance from the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, Ericnakoma Osterwald, was arrested on April 24 in Norwood, CO, on multiple felony counts related to the sexual exploitation of a child.
This case has no relevance or connection to a separate case being investigated by the Telluride Marshals Department.
The Mountain Village Police Department would like to emphasize that there is no evidence indicating that child sexual abuse or child molestation occurred or that the victims are local children.
Due to the sensitive nature of this case and to protect the identity of the victim(s), further details will not be disclosed at this time. However, the MVPD wants to assure the public that it will continue prioritizing the safety and well-being of our community, especially our most vulnerable members.
Anyone with information related to this case or any other instances of child exploitation is encouraged to contact the Mountain Village Police Department immediately at 970-249-9110.
