Gondola station planning meetings scheduled for January 27-29, 2025

The San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART), Towns of Mountain Village and Telluride, and Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association (TMVOA) are kicking off the next phase of the gondola planning project with a series of meetings, which will focus on station planning in Mountain Village and Telluride.

On January 27, the Gondola Leadership Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at Mountain Village Town Hall Council Chambers for an update on the overall project and an introduction to the next phase of the planning process. This meeting will be held in-person with a remote option via Zoom.

Then, on Tuesday, January 28 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. a workshop will be held to discuss Mountain Village gondola stations in the Mountain Village Town Hall Council Chamber with an option to tune in via Zoom. This workshop will focus on the stations in Mountain Village Center (known as stations 4 and 5) and the Market Plaza Station (known as station 6).

On Wednesday, January 29, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Town of Telluride will hold a workshop to discuss station planning for the Oak Street Station (station 1). That meeting will be held in person at Rebekah Hall with an option to tune in via Zoom.

These two workshops will focus on transitioning the conversation to specific station area plans for each town. At these meetings, staff and the gondola project team will also provide an overview of the overall gondola project and what is anticipated for station area planning over the next eight months.

"The station area planning process we're embarking on is the next phase of crafting the vision of how a new gondola will best fit into and serve our region,” said SMART Executive Director David Averill. “These meetings will provide members of the public a chance to weigh in on this important aspect of the project which will help lead us into the future. The project team is looking forward to hearing from all stakeholders at these meetings."

These meetings are a critical next step following the November 2024 voter approval of long-term regional gondola funding through ballot measure 3A, which ensures continuous operation and a future gondola replacement beyond the current gondola agreement’s expiration of December 31, 2027.
