Town Council approves on first reading of an ordinance an application for Lot 109R hotel project PUD amendment

At its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 17, the Mountain Village Town Council voted 4 to 3 to approve an ordinance on first reading to approve a fourth major Planned Unit Development (PUD) Amendment for the existing Lot 109R PUD.

Council also directed staff to memorialize verbal agreements made during the August Town Council meeting and incorporate them into the final development agreement in the second reading of the ordinance at the next Town Council Meeting on September 20, 2023.

The project applicant is Tiara Telluride, LLC which owns the Mountain Village Hotel site, located where North Village Center Parking lot currently sits. The 109R PUD (also known as Mountain Village Hotel PUD) was first approved in 2010 and has received three PUD amendments that extended its vesting period and is now set to expire in September 2023.

“What really stands out to me is that our citizens truly care about the Town of Mountain Village and its future. There were over 50 in-person citizens and an additional 40 citizens participating via Zoom. Whether individuals were in support of this project or against it, all the people in Council Chambers and via Zoom last night expressed heartfelt comments and engagement about the hotel project. Council ultimately approved the project, and community participation continues to play a large role in their decision making,” said Community Development Director Amy Ward.

The luxury hotel brand Six Senses has provided a letter of intent to operate the proposed hotel. The project proposes 50 hotbeds, 20 condominiums, 31 lodge units, 18 employee dorms, 2 employee apartments, restaurants, conference space, hotel amenity spaces and improvements to Village Center plazas.
