Regional Transportation

SMART Telluride

San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART),  is classified as a Regional Transportation Authority under Colorado law, with broad authority to finance, build, and operate a regional transportation system. The creation of SMART was approved by the voters of Telluride, Mountain Village and the R-1 School District of San Miguel County in November of 2016.

The Colorado Department of Transportation provides bus service from Durango to Grand Junction serving Telluride allowing passengers to travel to and from Durango and Grand Junction and the towns along the route. The Partnership

Representatives and leaders from Mountain Village, Telluride and San Miguel County have been meeting regularly in recent years to explore ways in which they can work cooperatively to provide regional transportation options – today and in the future – to the community at large. The Objectives

The San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation strives to deliver safe and reliable transit services, and to consistently advocate and promote the use of multi-modal transit systems.

How is SMART Funded

SMART is funded through the collection of a .25 cent sales tax and .75 mill levy in the Towns of Telluride and Mountain Village, and areas of the R-1 School District in San Miguel County.
